Hold the fork in your left hand and knife in the right just the way the picture depicts. The ends of both the cutlery should rest well in your palm. This is called the hidden handle method.

Place the prongs of the fork into the food and hold it in place, slice a food portion with knife. To cut into food on your plate, pick up and hold your knife in your right hand.
