When you come back from a honeymoon, you dread having to go back to the real world. Having to go back to work and deal with the errands around the house is a pain after a relaxing holiday. 


And while there’s not much we can do about your job or chores, we’re definitely down to help you in the kitchen. So without further ado, here are 5 easy recipes for newlyweds -

  • Sweet potato and mushroom vegetable bowl

    This is one of the best recipes for newlyweds since it’s packed with protein. It will provide you with energy to get through the day when your body is functioning in a different time zone from your vacation. Besides, you shouldn’t have to slog in the kitchen when mornings are meant for sleepy cuddles.


    Step 1: Cut a large sweet potato into a few slices. Next, heat a frying pan over a medium flame, and once it has heated up sufficiently, coat the pan with 1 ½ teaspoons of oil. Add the sweet potato and allow it to cook until they’re golden.

    Step 2: Place another pan over medium heat and add oil. Add a cup of chopped mushrooms and shredded cabbage. Toss this around to mix well.

    Step 3: Once the ingredients of your second pan have browned, transfer all these to a serving bowl, and cook 2 eggs for a minute. Cover it with a lid and let it sit for 3 minutes. This will cook the white of the egg and keep the yolk runny.

    Step 4: Transfer everything to a bowl and place the egg on top. You can garnish this with toppings of your choice, like sprouts or hummus.

  • Easy quesadillas

    Out of all the recipes for newlyweds, this one may just be the easiest to make. With hardly any cooking time, you can make these for any meal. So turn on some salsa music, get the ingredients out, and get ready for a dance-off - for a party of two!



    Step 1: Heat atawa over a low flame, coating it with a few drops of oil. Place a tortilla and allow it to brown on both sides. Set this aside, and place a second tortilla on the pan and repeat the same process.

    Step 2: Flip the second tortilla over, and as it cooks, add ½ cup of baked beans, spreading them out evenly. Add a pinch of red chilli powder, topping this with chopped onions, tomatoes, and capsicum. Finally, shred cheese over everything with agrater, and place the first tortilla on top of everything.

    Step 3: Transfer this to a plate and cut it into several slices. In a small bowl, add salsa or a cheese sauce to dip into with every bite.

    The best part about this recipe is how versatile it is. You can add shredded chicken, olives, mushrooms, and whatever else you want into the mix, thus providing you with several easy recipes for newlyweds all at once!

  • Daal makhani

    They say that the way to the heart is through the stomach. Indulgent, rich, and tasty, this classic Indian dish is equal parts delicious and equal parts easy, guaranteeing that this will make it on your list of best recipes for newlyweds. 



    Step 1: Soak 1 cup of urad daal and ¼ cup of kidney beans overnight. Rinse this in the morning and add these to apressure cooker. Add 3-4 cups of water and let it cook on a high flame.

    Step 2: As you wait for 20 whistles, chop 2 tomatoes and puree them in ablender. In a pan, add 3 tablespoons of butter, ½ teaspoon of cumin seeds, and 3 cloves till it begins to give off a strong aroma. Add in chopped onions and 2 teaspoons of ginger garlic paste, and saute. Add the puree, and once thoroughly cooked, add the contents of the pressure cooker and stir until it becomes thick. Add ⅓ cup of cream and stir it in well.

    Cooking from the heart will definitely leave you significant other in awe, buttering their heart more for you. 

  • Aloo poha

    A common breakfast across India, making this dish may bring a feeling of nostalgia for you. Poha can be made in large quantities so you can reheat the leftovers for another day.



    Step 1: Soak the poha in water to clean and soften it. Strain the water and add a pinch of salt and turmeric powder. Peel and cut potatoes into thin, small slices, and chop a few coriander leaves.

    Step 2: Heat 4 tablespoons of oil in a wok, and add 1 teaspoon of channa daal and urad daal each, and ¼ a teaspoon of mustard seeds. Fry these until they start to crackle, and then add the potatoes. Let these cook well, before finally adding the poha and stirring well.

    Serve hot and garnish this with the coriander leaves and a squeeze of lemon. A taste of this will have your significant other saying “I do” all over again!

  • Tomato and basil pasta

    No matter how empty your cupboards may seem, there’s always that one packet of pasta lurking in the corner. With such an easy recipe, you’ll always have leftovers to come home to. And pair this with a good bottle of wine, and you’re officially set for a romantic movie night together.



    Step 1: Cook 500 grams of pasta in a large pot of boiling water. Meanwhile, prepare the sauce in another pan. Heat 4 tablespoons of olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add 2 cloves of crushed garlic and let this cook for a while

    Step 2: Mix in 800 grams of chopped cherry tomatoes and let this sit for a few minutes till it’s warm. Drain the pasta water out and add the ingredients of the saucepan into the pot. Add ½ a cup of water, and too ¼ a cup of fresh basil in.

    Step 3: Stir frequently until the ingredients are combined well. Serve hot, and add garnishes, like shredded parmesan, a squeeze of lemon, or a little pepper.

  • Red velvet cake

    For the times you’re feeling indulgent, cake comes to the rescue. And nothing says romance the way a red velvet cake does! Crumbly and moist, this baked goodness will be over before you know it.



    Step 1: To prepare, preheat your oven to 350 degrees and grease two pans for the layers of the cake. After greasing both, dust one of them with 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, and set everything aside.

    Step 2: In a large bowl, add ½ a cup of butter and 1 ½ cups of fine sugar and mix well. Once the colour lightens, add 2 eggs one after another, and beat into the mix.

    Step 3: In a second bowl, add 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, ¼ cup of cooking oil, 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, and 2 ½ tablespoons of red food colouring. Stir these until it appears smooth, and mix in 1 tablespoon of vinegar. Add this to the larger bowl and mix well.

    Step 4: Take 2 ½ cups of sifted flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and a pinch of salt in a third bowl and mix well. Add half the content to the larger bowl, and mix this in with ½ a cup of buttermilk. Once it appears smooth, add in the remaining half of the dry ingredients with another ½ cup of buttermilk.

    Step 5: Transfer the completed batter into two equal halves between the two cake pans and allow them to bake in the oven for 30 minutes. Allow it to cool afterwards before you begin to layer and assemble them. You can frost this with cream cheese for added flavour.
